Euro / US dollar (EURUSD) : read guide

Understanding this instrument

The EURUSD pair compares EUR (euro) and USD (US dollar). The first currency is the basic currency; the second is the quotation currency. An increase in the pair means that the basic currency is valued relative to the rating currency, all other things being equal.

Prices, candles and analyses

For EURUSD, views M5, M15, H1 and H4 place observations in separate horizons. A moving average describes a smooth level, the RSI an aspect of the momentum and the ATR an amplitude of variation. These measures do not answer the same question; their disagreements must remain visible.

A fenced candle and a temporary candle do not provide the same level of information. The graph can build a partial candle from the really received ticks during the consultation; the previous missing data must not be invented. The visual calculations of the graph remain distinct from the engine analyses.

Limits and provenance

Before interpreting an analysis, consult the supplier, the time of the last observation, the freshness of the candles and the missing factors. The status of the price and of the analysis are distinct. A score is not a probability of gain and a lack of data is not a neutral signal.

Educational reading

EURUSD after an announcement: distinguish the news, the expectation and the move

An interest rate decision alone does not determine EURUSD’s direction. What was expected beforehand matters too.

Read both sides of the pair

News may appear positive for the euro while EURUSD falls. It may be less favourable than expected, already anticipated or accompanied by guidance that changes its meaning. The pair compares two currencies: the US outlook and expectations about the dollar matter alongside the euro area. Its movement is not a measure of just one economy’s health.

Separate three kinds of information

Keep the published announcement, the expectation before publication and the observed market response distinct. The ECB describes how policy rates affect financial conditions and expectations, with effects on asset prices and exchange rates. The timing and strength of transmission vary; this is not a rule that mechanically predicts the next EURUSD move. [1]

Record an expectation only when you have a dated source. A previous reading is not necessarily the consensus forecast. If the expectation is unavailable, leave it missing instead of inventing it. Read the announcement’s detail before explaining the reaction.

Define what counts as confirmation

Consider a pair trading in a range before news. A first move outside the boundary that immediately returns inside is not automatically a confirmed breakout. Decide beforehand whether you mean a price crossing, an M5 or M15 close, or subsequent behaviour around the zone. These conditions require different evidence and involve different delays. Waiting for a close does not guarantee that a breakout will hold.

Use H1 or H4 to establish whether a short move fits the broader trend. Explain disagreement rather than adding indicators until they appear to agree.

Compare timestamps correctly

Identify the announcement’s timezone. UTC and local time may describe the same instant. Check whether a candle’s timestamp denotes its opening or closing time, so that an earlier candle is not attributed to later news.

On CETIN, a recent quote and the candles behind an analysis are separate information. A current quote cannot retrospectively recreate missing historical candles. A freshly calculated result does not remove that limitation.

Keep a simple record

Retain four items: what was expected, what was released, the reaction observed and the condition that would invalidate your interpretation. This is a method for explaining a move, not a claim that the result was certain or that the private research system has demonstrated returns.
